Ever looked at people who go into and out of public establishments any more?
I work as a people greeter for a large retail chain store. It's my job to make everyone who enters the store feel welcomed. [I am often told that I am simply way too chipper for that early in the morning! LOL] So, I do notice what people are dressed like, how they look, how they smell.
Sad to say, if most women didn't have boobs, you'd never know them from the men who enter the store where I work! Plain and gawdy printed t-shirts, over worn out denim blue jeans, and sneakers that could be worn by either sex!
So, I take particular attention time to those women who come in looking ultra feminine. No, I don't mean ultra-chic, but they can never be mistaken for a dude!!!
My mother is a woman who has been an invalid for the past 16 years. [She suffered a brain anuerysm that led to multiple strokes.] She has been forced to have to wear the simplest of garments in order to be able to maintain her independence to some degree. So pull on denims and t-shirts make it easy for her. But sometimes, when I wear something soft or feminine to visit her in, I see that longing for the old days when she wore frilly lace and hosiery.
So... this Mother's Day I bought her a purse, handmade by one of the women I work with. It's a simple little tote really, with an angel print fabric that reminded me so much of Mom! And I filled it with little trinkets and goodies I found that I hope make her feel a little feminine. One of the rather unusual gift I dropped into the tote was a lavender sachet!
Do you remember these?
When I was a child, we had them in every dresser drawer! And two or three hanging in our clothes closet as well! These little fabric bags were filled with little sprigs of lavender that helped to scent our clothing drawers and closets, and kept everything smelling fresh! I loved them as a child.
Why did we ever stop using them?
Did they go out of vogue?
I just know that I've determined to find, or make, enough for my home today! What a treat to pull fresh undies from the dresser drawer and find that simple whiff of freshness from the sachet!
In the meantime, I've placed a sweet smelling dryer sheet in each dresser drawer, and a couple in the clothes closet as well.
Take a deep breath!
That's definitely a feminine feeling you get from that scent!!
Maybe it's time we bring back a few of those old items that made us look and feel more lady like.
