Black Raspberries Touted as Super Fruit

Highly-Nutritive Black Raspberries, Power-Packed Superfruit Now Being Introduced Worldwide
Black Raspberries On Vine
Due to perfect growing conditions, with the warmest spring
for 20 years making fruit especially juicy, black raspberries
are now being distributed worldwide, and one day may even
be more popular than the traditional red raspberry variety.
The fruit originates in the United States, and was brought to
the UK for European distribution five years ago. It had taken time to propagate and generate commercially viable volumes for the mass market now called "Mack Blacks". They are sweeter than blackberries but similarly juicy, while they
preserve a red raspberry's texture.
Especially high in Ellagic acid, Anthocyanins and Antioxidants, research has shown that black raspberries may slow the growth of breast, cervical, colon and esophageal cancers.
A November 2010 study from the University of Illinois found
that black raspberry supplements were associated with a 45% reduction in the incidence of colorectal tumors, and a 60% reduction in tumors within controlled laboratory models.
The fruit's pulp, which contains twice as much calcium as milk and more magnesium than spinach, black raspberries have obvious potential for blending with acai berries, cranberries, blueberries, pomegranate and other super fruit extracts for supplements and functional food products.
A recent survey of 766 consumers who bought fruit juice and smoothies, found that their choices were influenced by the presence of antioxidant-rich super fruits, such as pomegranate, acai and cranberry. Considering their rich nutritional value,
Black Raspberries are positioned to become one of the more popular super fruit choices among health-minded consumers!
